Bio

Susie Smith is a high school teacher and member of the original generation of the Student Voice Team. Joining Student Voice Team in 2012, Susie worked on their early campaigns to increase funding and remove barriers to meaningful student involvement in decision making.

As a high school student, Susie testified in front of state congress, audited schools, wrote opinion pieces, and presented at a number of conferences. After having a passion for educational equity sparked by her early involvement with KSVT, Susie finished her degree at the University of Kentucky  moved to Massachusetts to begin her teaching career.

Susie taught middle school math for two years at a public school in Lawrence, Massachusetts as a Teach For America Corps Member before moving to teach high school history at a charter school in Lynn, Massachusetts. It is here that she has taught for three years and served as an instructional coach, as well as built a school library and teacher residency program. While in Massachusetts, Susie also completed her Master's of Education in Curriculum and Teaching.

In 2024, Susie was named as a Transformative Leaders of Massachusetts fellow. Susie spends most of her time preparing for her students, but loves to stay in touch with the efforts of Student Voice Team and provide guidance when she can.
